I follow blogs about SL with quite some interest and found this site: http://riastats.com/ . It basically tracks browsers to see if Flash and Silverlight is installed. You can clearly see that SL has a long way to go, but I was still amazed to see that SL had almost 25% share already.

Looking at the line graph, you can see that in the last week, SL 2 market share has grown extremely rapidly. That makes this post by John Dowdell (from Adobe) outdated, since he was only seeing a 2% share at the moment of writing. The mere fact that he uses these numbers, lend some kind of credibility.

I’m very interested in seeing the statistics from some other sites. Keep in mind that riastats base these numbers on only 18,600 unique browsers and do not disclose which sites are used (for all we know, they are Silverlight blogs :) ).
When numbers seem too good to be true, they usually are.

In any case though, I will keep my eye on the statistics the next few weeks!

ps. if you know of other statistics sites that show SL reach, leave a comment.

Its a little difficult to take the site seriously when they can't get the name 'Silverlight' right, and have managed to misspell 'Statistics' :-) Maybe i'm just a spelling snob.

Might not be too good to be true. The NBC Olympics site got tons of hits over the past couple weeks and the HD Video player there is Silverlight 2.

Yes, it's interesting. If you check out the "Line" view for historical data, you'll see that it did shift the day after my mention of it, Aug 16. Stayed flat the first nine days of the Olympics, then ballooned when attention was called to it. Platform mix changed shifted sharply that day too, towards WinXP/Vista. Suggestive, but not conclusive either way, I suspect.

Hey guys. I wrote the RiaStats.com site.

The jump comes from several silverlight bloggers adding the riastats collection script to their site. Because they have a ton of subscribers versus the other sites that use it, the statistics are skewed. However, it should still be interesting to note that you can get that high a percentage, if you put silverlight on your site.

When I get a chance, I'm going to add a feature that allows you filter out sites that are specifically about silverlight or flash from the data aggregation.
